Akina - Creating Opportunities Together

Welcome to Akina! We support the Bethlehem Star School in Arusha by giving disadvantaged children new opportunities through education.

Who are we?

We are Akina e.V., a non-profit organization that works for social justice and educational opportunities for children in Tanzania. Our vision is to promote a sustainable and self-sufficient educational environment that is open to all children regardless of their origin.

What do we do?

We finance sponsorships for disadvantaged students and support the Bethlehem Star School in Arusha through projects such as building wells, expanding the vegetable garden and providing medical care. Our goal is to develop the school into a self-sufficient educational center that will strengthen the entire community in the long term.

Our Vision

Our vision is to develop the Bethlehem Star School into a sustainable education center in Arusha that provides students from all social backgrounds with a high-quality education.

By expanding infrastructure, renewable energy and self-sufficiency projects, we are creating a school that is independent and future-oriented. In the long term, we want to secure our students' educational path beyond primary school and strengthen the community sustainably by building a secondary school. Our goal is to improve life prospects through education and to bring about positive social change.

Tupendane

Akina works closely with a strong local partner: the Tupendane Foundation, which is led by Edgar Masunga, who is also the director of the Bethlehem Star School. Together we are committed to education, equality and sustainability in Tanzania. While Akina supports sponsorships and school projects, Tupendane particularly promotes women's rights and sustainable development projects in the region. This close cooperation enables us to bring about positive change in the community in the long term.

Our board

Konstantin, Ben and Magdalena worked as volunteers at the school and after their stay decided to support the school in the long term and sustainably.

Wolfgang got to know the living conditions of the porters and their families during a Kilimanjaro climb. He therefore also supports the school and smaller projects to support the porters.
